How to Use MC Build Planner (Step-by-Step Guide)
Follow this step-by-step guide to get the most out of every feature, control, material calculator, and export option in MC Build Planner.
1. Choose Your Base Shape
Select Circle for equal towers & wells, Oval for stretched pools & arenas, or Sphere / Dome for 3D layered roofs & globes.
2. Set Dimensions & Quick Presets
Enter your exact block diameter or click quick presets (7, 15, 21, 31, 64, 128, 256). Radius and circumference update automatically.
3. Select Build Style & Thickness
Choose Outline for single-block perimeter walls, Filled for solid floors, or Thick with adjustable wall width (1 to 8 blocks).
4. Customize Material & Palette
Open Advanced Build Settings to select Stone, Deepslate, Quartz, Glass, or Custom blocks for accurate 64-stack counts and realistic canvas colors.
5. Align Coordinates & Zoom Level
Enter your in-game X and Z coordinates for exact cardinal alignment in your world, and adjust the Canvas Zoom slider (50% to 200%).
6. Interactive Block Progress Tracker
Click or tap grey blocks on the grid canvas to mark them placed in Moss Green. Cardinal anchors highlight in Lapis Blue and Centre in Clay Orange.

Large builds
For mega bases, use a quadrant plan.
A 1,000 or 2,000 block circle is too large to follow from a normal grid. Minecraft Circle Tool changes to Large Build Mode: mark the centre, mark the four outer anchors, build one quadrant from the row sequence, then repeat that quadrant in the other directions.
This keeps the plan readable on a phone and avoids rendering millions of tiny cells. You still get the total material count, 64-stack estimate and a printable build sequence.

Build planning
Choose the build method before you choose the blocks
A circular build usually starts as a shape problem, but it quickly becomes a material and workflow problem. A 15-block outline can be tested with one stack of temporary blocks. A large arena, wall or dome foundation needs a clear centre, several anchor points and enough materials to avoid stopping halfway through the curve.
Use the Circle Generator in three stages. First, enter a diameter and view the outline. Second, check whether the centre type works with the entrance and interior. Third, choose the final wall style and material only after the ground-level footprint feels right in the world. This order saves time because the outer shape is cheap to change before walls, roofs and decoration are added.
Outline, filled floor or thick wall?
An outline is the best starting point for a tower wall, path edge, well rim or arena boundary. A filled circle is useful when the base must become a floor, platform, pond bed or solid foundation. A thicker wall works when players need to walk on the rim, when a castle wall needs visual weight, or when the structure must contain rooms inside the shell.
Use coordinates when the build has to line up
In a single-player creative world, a visual centre marker may be enough. On a server, in a city build or around an existing structure, X and Z coordinates matter more. Enter the planned centre and mark the north, east, south and west anchors first. Those points keep multiple builders aligned and give you a reliable way to return to the project after a break.
Shape decisions
Know when a circle is not the right shape
A circle works when the build needs equal distance in every direction: towers, wells, circular rooms, arenas and dome foundations. Use an oval when the build needs a longer axis for a pool, stadium, track or hall. Use a half circle for an arch, tunnel or bridge opening. Use a ring when the centre should remain open for a courtyard, portal, garden or path.
For three-dimensional builds, the circle often becomes the first layer rather than the final result. A sphere grows from changing circle layers. A dome is the upper part of a sphere. A cone roof reduces its circular layers as it rises. Planning the base correctly is therefore the best way to make every later layer easier.
Use the quick size buttons as a starting point
The quick sizes are not rules; they are common decisions builders make. A small 7 or 9 block circle is useful for decoration. A 15 or 21 block circle is a practical tower or room footprint. A 31 block circle gives more freedom for stairs, storage and entrances. Large projects should move to the quadrant checklist rather than trying to read a huge grid from one browser screen.

What is the best circle size for a Minecraft tower?
